For over 20 years, Tereo and its partners have been committed to promoting healthy, diversified and local food, while contributing to the food sovereignty of populations. Today, we have an ambitious project to present to you: the Promotion of Local Products (PPL), an essential program to strengthen the autonomy of local producers and protect biodiversity.
But that’s not all! By supporting this project, you also have the chance to win a unique work by artist-photographer Thomas Crauwels, famous for his black-and-white photographs of the Alps. For this first edition of the GivingTuesday Challenge, the artist has generously offered one of his works to a lucky donor. To take part, all you have to do is make a donation on our SwissDonations page. The most generous of you will be lucky enough to receive this exceptional work as a reward for your support!
Why is this project so crucial?
In many parts of Africa, food is still largely dominated by imported products. This situation weakens local economies, leads to food dependency and threatens local biodiversity. But there is a solution: buy local. By supporting local producers and processors, we can reverse this trend, create jobs and encourage sustainable farming practices that preserve our environment.
The PPL project, in partnership with the Togolese organization OADEL (Organisation pour l’Alimentation et le Développement Local), is being deployed in Togo, Burkina Faso and Mali, with the aim of boosting the production and consumption of local products. The aim is to highlight endogenous products such as chocolate and coffee in Togo, soumbala and shea butter in Burkina Faso, and fonio and parboiled rice in Mali. These products, grown and processed locally, offer enormous potential for strengthening the food sovereignty and economic independence of these regions.
Why support this project?
Your support, in the form of a donation, can transform the lives of hundreds of local producers. Every contribution helps :
- Pay local trainers to run the workshops.
- Develop appropriate marketing strategies to promote local products.
- Offer processing tools to improve product quality.
- Encourage the reappropriation of ancestral knowledge and sustainable practices.
What to do?
We invite you to join this wonderful adventure by supporting our project. Every donation, large or small, has a direct impact on the lives of local producers and contributes to a more united and sustainable food future. With your help, we can make a difference and offer communities in Togo, Burkina Faso and Mali the keys to food and economic independence.
