Our mission
The Sugu Horon project charts an innovative course towards food sovereignty and the empowerment of peri-urban and rural communities in Mali. By strengthening a complete agro-ecological value chain, Sugu Horon supports producers and processors in the sustainable professionalization of their activities, enabling them to increase their incomes while promoting sustainable consumption patterns to a wide public. Through inclusion in a solidarity network (RESAPAC) supported by training, participatory financing and access to fair trade markets, the project promotes concrete social and economic transformation. Women play a central role, benefiting from specific support to maximize their entrepreneurial potential in agricultural sectors.
The network
During the first two years, 60 RESAPAC producers and 10 processors received training in the key skills identified by the project. Today, 50 RESAPAC producers are sufficiently equipped to produce all year round, and 10 processors are equipped to produce under sufficiently hygienic conditions. Basic training in agroecology has been provided for producers, and has been supplemented by additional thematic training, particularly for leaders of women's groups. It also helped to bring producers and processors up to speed by reminding them of the principles of agroecology and applying them on a daily basis. The regular presence of supervisors in the field, with fortnightly visits to producers, also makes it possible to provide them with close, personalized follow-up.
Objectives achieved
Improving producers' technical and financial autonomy
Institutionalization of the RESAPAC association with the adoption of a procedures booklet, the holding of its first General Meeting and the election of a Board of Directors.
